COUNCILLORS BACK DONEGAL DIASPORA JOBS INITIATIVE

first_imgDONEGAL County Councillors today welcomed a new jobs initiative which aims to tap into the county’s wide diaspora.Councillors from all parties were briefed on the plan by Alan Gallagher from ConnectIreland.Connectireland is an innovative way to create new jobs in Ireland by harnessing the power of our global connections. Mr Gallagher told councillors: “Our mission is to attract companies which are expanding internationally to locate in Ireland and create new jobs for the Irish economy.“We have been appointed by the Irish Government and IDA Ireland to deliver the Succeed in Ireland Initiative which is part of the Irish Government’s 2012 Action Plan for jobs.”Cllr Mick Quinn told Mr Gallagher that “there isn’t a village or town in the county” which hadn’t been hit by emigration and, echoing other councillors views, he said any initiative to create jobs was welcome.Cllr Ciaran Brogan cited the example of Pramerica which now employs 900 people, saying its founder had links to Rathmullan “and wanted to put something back.” Councillors from all parties said they would support the initiative.Mr Gallagher added: “I’m extremely driven and I am extremely motivated and I know this can work.
