Navy’s newest ship in Rathmullan for free tours this weekend

first_imgThe LÉ George Bernard Shaw will be stopping by Rathmullan pier this weekend as the village hosts the exciting Polar Plunge fundraiser.For the second year in a row, the brave Irish Naval Service will be ‘freezin’ for a reason’ as they take part in Saturday’s Polar Plunge fundraiser for Special Olympics Ireland.And they will be arriving in style in the LÉ George Bernard Shaw. This is the newest vessel commissioned in April 2019 and the fourth and final ship of the P60 class vessels built for the Naval Service. The Samuel Beckett-class offshore patrol vessel and will be alongside Rathmullan Pier for viewings this weekend.Free guided tours of the vessel by the ship’s crew will take place from1 pm -4 pm on Saturday 7th December and 2pm – 4pm on Sunday 8th December.Along with the Irish Naval Service, An Garda Síochána Donegal will be joined by the 28th Infantry Battalion Donegal, Irish Coast Guard inc R118, RNLI, National Ambulance Service, Fire Service Donegal and many brave members of the public for the Rathmullan Polar Plunge.
