IPL 2019: I tell Jasprit Bumrah not to bowl to me in the nets, says Yuvraj Singh

first_imgIndia pace ace Jasprit Bumrah instills fear deep into the heart of the opposition but given his consistency over the years now, even his own teammates are scared of facing him in the nets.Yuvraj Singh, India’s 2011 World Cup hero and one of the cleanest hitters of the cricket ball in his prime, admitted he does not want to play Jasprit Bumrah in the nets.”I don’t play him in the nets. I tell him not to bowl to me,” Bumrah’s teammate Yuvraj Singh said.Yuvraj Singh backed Jasprit Bumrah to be the standout bowler in the upcoming World Cup. “Jasprit Bumrah is probably one of the best three bowlers in the world. He wins games with the ball. He is best when he attacks. I am gunning for him to be the best bowler in the World Cup,” Yuvraj adds. While Bumrah’s effectiveness marks a big tick besides India’s pace battery, the spin department would be under some pressure with Kuldeep Yadav facing serious stick at the IPL. Yuvraj, however, backs Kuldeep to weave his magic at the mega event.Jasprit Bumrah was in spectacular form for India in the international season and has carried his form to the IPL for Mumbai Indians. In England, he will play a key role but India has a concern with Kuldeep Yadav’s form. After a nightmarish game against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Eden Gardens, Kuldeep Yadav was dropped and has not played since. However, Yuvraj Singh did not sound worried with Kuldeep Yadav’s IPL form and said it would not affect his performance in the World Cup.advertisement”I don’t compare T20 with one day cricket. Kuldeep has been a fantastic bowler for India and I am sure he will bounce back. There are nine league games to be played at the World Cup and there would have been a worry if he was hit in a fifty overs competition. Our strength for a while has been to play with two spinners. And he has been extremely effective in England, South Africa, and Australia,” he said. The other worry for the Indian camp would be the absence of a viable sixth bower on a day when Hardik Pandya or one of the bowling regulars go for runs. Playing expert on the issue, Yuvraj concurs it’s a problem but believes a change in playing conditions has made the part-timers’ role more difficult.”We have less bowling options. But earlier we had only four fielders in the circle so you could get four or five overs out of part-timers. But now with five fielders in the circle, it’s very difficult to get that many overs out of them. That’s why you need specialists. But they will have to get some overs out of whoever is playing at no.6 whether it is Kedar or Vijay Shankar. You may need to get four or five or sometimes 10 overs out of them. Let’s see,” he contemplates. Also Read | Hardik Pandya’s 91 against KKR is the best IPL innings I have ever seen: Yuvraj SinghAlso Read | Best way to bowl to Hardik Pandya, don’t bowl to him at all: Jasprit Bumrahlast_img
